Midsummer Sunshine

Dreams on a midsummer’s day
Will warm us, snuggling us
In its comfort when winter’s night
And the grey cold descends
When the chill goes deep
Our hearts and souls in need
Of strength to trudge through
One more stark icy day
Born on these days
When flowers thrive and every
Day is colored vibrant in
Possibility of what may be seen next
You bring to us the year long
All that can be accomplished
If we simply recall your rays
Reaching forward to find your light

Hope in Cleaning a Refrigerator

There are other tasks
I would rather do than
Clean this fridge of its
Sticky old juices and
Slimy stuck on messes
Lids lifted to odors
Disconcerting my nose
The crevices, drawers
Shelves of outdated
Condiments, jellies and
Sauces hardly used
Except for that one
Recipe from Gourmet
I thought would prove
My fabulous culinary
Skills but which only
Took too long, cost
Too much and was
Left on plates pushed
Away by little boys
Whose sensibility lies
In a crispy grilled cheese
Or bread slathered in
Peanut-butter and Nutella
The process of tossing
Scrubbing, rearranging
Gives life to a fresh start
Outlook on everything else
Of endless possibilities
If knuckles to the
Grindstone, committed in
Thought and effort
I wipe the slate clean
And start all over again

Dream Aloft

The dream I had last night
My brain in rote memory
Reminding my resting heart
In its dormant state to
Awake into a belief of the
Possibility of a wish that can
Be to me more than thought
Like the blown silky soft
Dandelion weed we easily
Pluck from its waiting,

Lips almost kissing,
Hushed whistle, eyes pinched
In hope’s concentrated effort;
Giving these para trooping
Seeds now aloft to unknown
Destinations a blessing
Until landing in a golden
Field will soon be picked
Fingers holding stem steady
Under a smiling chin
